Hearers of the word make excuses for their actions.
Doers of the word make changes!
Taking responsibility for ones actions is the first step and many will do this however few go so far as to become repentive for those actions. To be truly repentive one must continue forward and make changes. True repentance means considering the outcome of our actions and doing things differently. A determined consistency is the only thing that will fuel such a change.
Jesus told us that if someone sins against us and asks our forgiveness we are to forgive them.
Matthew 18:21-22 (New King James Version)
21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Why should we? Because Jesus tells us, Luke 6:35-7 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. 37 "Forgive, and you will be forgiven."
Jesus told us not to act like the religious scribes and the Pharisees, Matthew 23:3 (Amplified Bible) "do not do what they do, for they preach, but do not practice."
We are warned by Jesus Matthew 5:20 "I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."
We are also told, 2 Corinthians 5:10 "we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad." God will judge us and those who mistreated us!
And James tells us straight out, James 1:22 "22 be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
These scriptures explain to us that we are to forgive if we expect to be forgiven. They also tell us all mankind will be help accountable by God for what they've done. He is holding us accountable and we will be dealt with without our excuses before Him. So if you have been someone who has not changed how you treat others consider this and start today to take responsibility for your actions and become accountable making changes toward those you have harmed and those you will interact with in the future. Our actions can in this life effect us and in the end effect us forever.
Do you have any thoughts you'd like to add. If so please reply. Thanks Gille
